Ignoring God’s Word

The invisible things of Him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and God-head; so that they are without excuse (Romans 1:20).

The being of God may be apprehended but cannot be comprehended. Finite understandings cannot perfectly know an infinite being, but there is that which may be known. The power and Godhead of God are invisible things and yet are clearly seen in their products. He works in secret but manifests what He has formed and therein makes known His power and God-head.

Ungodliness is a rebellion against God and acting as if He does not exist. Unrighteousness is rebellion against God’s revealed will and acting unjustly towards other people. People attempt to prove to themselves and others that there is no God or that He doesn’t judge evil. Because they will not admit that God’s judgment upon evil is just, they continue in their sin and try to convince themselves that God does not exist or approves of their sins.

Sin is contagious, and if we’re keeping company with people we know who are living opposite of the Word of God, we will begin to ignore the sin and will condone it because we’ve become insensitive to the sin (Be not deceived: evil communication corrupt good manners [habits]. Awake to righteousness and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame – 1st Corinthians 15:33-34). There are many who have heard of God but don’t know Him or His character, they have heard Scriptures, and they use what they have heard but never taken the time to get knowledge of the Scriptures they’re quoting. As believers, our character and behavior should be that of our Father.

Sin can influence people to what they are doing isn’t wrong. For example, a movie may have a scene with pre-marital sex or adultery, but the way it’s presented, it seems harmless. The man and woman are in love; people will look at the movie as two people in love, not focusing on what the Word of God says about fornication and adultery. Say, for instance, in the movie, the bad guy is killed, we don’t think about this as being murder, and no one should be killed no matter what they have done. Perhaps it’s a movie with gangsters whose conversation is mostly profanity, it’s entertainment, but it’s also sending a message to our mind, will, emotions, and spirit. This is why we must be careful of what we’re listening to and watching as believers.

God never changes, and neither does His Word. His written Word of instructions is for our benefit, and when we do other than what the Word of God is instructing, then we’re ignoring His Word, which causes the judgment of God to come upon us. It’s in our best interest to read and study the Bible and apply the instructions to our lives daily.

Christians should have different conduct than the world; our speech and behavior should manifest the DNA of God, He’s our Father, and we should be an example of His children. We can’t take a portion of the Scriptures we will adhere to and dismiss the other. The Bible is for our instructions to live according to God’s Word and to bypass Hell when we die. Everyone has an appointed time to die, our works will not give us entrance into heaven, but our obedience to God’s Word will.
