Renewing of the Mind

And be not conformed to this world, but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God (Romans 12:2).

Christians are called to be leaders in the earth realm, being Ambassadors of His spiritual kingdom to bring others to His kingdom. He classifies Christians as priest and kings. He also does not want professing Christians conformed to the world’s system that is why He has instructed the Christian “be not conformed to this world” with its behavior and customs that are usually selfish and often corrupt. Our refusal to conform to this world’s values must go deeper than the level of behavior and customs, that’s why the mind must be renewed by the Word of God. It’s possible to avoid most worldly behavior and customs and still be proud, covetous, selfish, stubborn, arrogant, gossipers and controlling. Just because one receives salvation does not mean he or she is connected to God because they are “good”. There is a process of salvation until it becomes sanctification and even then the Spirit of God is continually working on us molding us to the image of Him and His Son.

Just as we read and explore different ways to increase our knowledge, financially, relationally and academically, we must have that same tenacity to increase our knowledge of the Word of God and what He expects from us as Christians. Whatever one accomplish in this world will not be taken over to the next world whether it be heaven or hell. Joining a church and receiving membership does give one citizenship in the kingdom of God. According to the Word of God, one must be born again, indicating their hearts and their spirit has been regenerated by the Spirit of God.

Jesus indicated to Nicomedus in order for one to enter into the kingdom of God they had to be “born again”, He didn’t say if you join a church or be a member of certain denominations (Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God – John 3:5). God has a standard and in order for us to enter into His kingdom, we must comply with His written Word of instructions, the Bible. God’s kingdom and instructions aren’t like Burger King, you can have it your way. Godly men wrote Scriptures as they were inspired by the Holy Spirit (All scriptures is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness – 2nd Timothy 3:16).  This refers to the supernatural guidance of the writer of Scripture by the Spirit of God so that what they wrote was the divine Word of God, transcribed accurately, reliably and without error in the original manuscripts. Although the Word of God has many translated numerous times, and there could be errors in the translation if one desire the sincere truth of the Word of God, He will give them revelation through His Word and His Spirit.

We can’t please God on our own terms this is the reason He allows men to transcribe His Word so that no one would be left out because they couldn’t understand the Word of God. Most employers have a policy manual, and each employee is to adhere to the policy if they want to continue being employed by that company. The Bible is God’s policy manual, and if one wants to be a child of God and citizens of His kingdom, they must adhere to His Word.

Sadly to say, the majority of  Christians haven’t memorized Bible verses nor their meaning, this is why the Apostle Paul admonished us to “Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needed not be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth”, this isn’t just for the ministerial office, but all those that call upon the name of the Lord and professing to be Christians. As Christians, we must know what our Father is instructing us to do, and we can only comply with it when we know what we suppose to be doing.

God has given us His written Word on how to stay in contact and connected with Him, and that’s by being a doer of His Word, take time to read the Bible and study the Bible, this is where you will find life. Every time we see another day, we’re one day closer to death, and when death knocks at our door, we must be prepared to enter into life. We’re just here for a limited time when we make our transition it will be for eternity; our minds must be renewed to submit to the Word of God.
