Watchman On The Wall

And the watchman cried, and told the king. And the king said, If he be alone, there is tidings (news) in his mouth. And he came apace (rapidly) , and drew near. And the watchman saw another man running: and the watchman called unto the porter (gatekeeper) and said, Behold another man running alone. And the king said, he also bringeth tidings – 2nd Samuel 18:25-26.

A watchman is one whose duty is to keep vigil, often on a tower  or wall, whether for the king or a city. In the book of Ezekiel, the prophet is appointed a watchman for the house of Israel, and it becomes his particular responsibility to warn his people to turn from their wicked ways.

Every born-again Christian is a watchman, I say born-again because many are professing to be Christians, but their lifestyle is far from it. A Christian can’t live according to the wold’s standards and live according to God’s principals. It’s a daily walk living in the principals of the written Word of God. It’s a Christian’s duty to continue to pray for the salvation of their family, community, co-workers, and even their enemies.

A watchman is one who sees the need of the people spiritually and will go before the King on their behalf. They will continue to pray until they see a spiritual change in the person or the individual’s life. A watchman can’t pray two or three times and when they don’t see a change they will stop praying. There is a doorkeeper that stands in the way of the unbeliever to keep them from receiving the Word of God. That doorkeeper has to be destroyed in order for the person to have a spiritual ear to hear the Word of God. Their hearts need to be softened to receive salvation along with sanctification. It’s the watchman’s duty to pray and fast until the doorkeeper is destroyed in the individual’s life. The prayer is to be continued, chopping it down daily like a tree until it comes a stump to be destroyed.

As Christians, its our responsibility to draw people to the kingdom of God, we can’t do that, by telling them they’re going to hell and treating them without love and compassion. It was love and compassion that drew us to God, He didn’t come beating us over our heads telling us we were going to hell. He was our example of love and we were drawn to it. Our life should be a tract people can read daily, and when they read us, we should be the example of our heavenly Father.

We have to stand before God for the unbeliever, we have to be the one that stands in the gap for them until they are delivered to go before the King for themselves. As a watchman, we can’t get tired or weary. We can’t get upset because we don’t see the fruits of Christianity. Pray and fast until the captives are set free, that’s the watchman’s duty. Christianity is not a denomination, it’s a lifestyle that will be an example of Jesus. The individuals desire is to please God and to see others set free from the bondage of sin.

The majority of people that are held in bondage is not aware they are in bondage because they don’t have a clue of what is sin to God. We find out God’s instructions by reading His written Word and applying it to our lives daily. As we see others that have been held captive, our hearts desire is to see them free, and the watchman on the wall will pray until they see the captive set free.
