Many of God’s people are committing spiritual adultery; they have left their first love and have returned to the things of the world when He has instructed them to be holy.
Most Christians wouldn’t think of having an affair outside of marriage, not along with having someone else’s spouse, yet they are committing spiritual adultery. In most marriages, when a spouse has been found to be unfaithful, most marriages don’t survive.
In Biblical days, when a spouse was found to be committing adultery, they would stone both the man and the woman to death; they took marriage to be sacred because God ordained it. God rebuked Israel of their unfaithfulness to their spouse (Yet ye say, Wherefore? Because the Lord hath been witness between thee and the wife of thy youth, against whom thou hast dealt treacherously: yet is she thy companion, and the wife of thy covenant – Malachi 2:14). Adultery is a sin before God then and now, He has not changed neither has His Word.
Since God feels about adultery between humans, the seriousness of spiritual adultery is even greater. Most Christians don’t understand that spiritual adultery is just as bad in the spiritual sense as physical adultery in the natural sense. When we receive salvation, we have become the bride of Christ (Turn, O backsliding children, saith the Lord; for I am married unto you: and I will take you one of a city, and two of a family, and I will bring you to Zion – Jeremiah 3:14). Although the Lord was talking about unification of Israel and Judah on Mt. Zion in Jerusalem, this Scripture can also be used for Christians since they are the spiritual Jews.
Many of God’s people are caught up in false religions such as Jehovah Witness, Islam, Seven Day Advents, Mornoism, and other religions. When the Bible has instructed, there is no other name one can be saved by other than the name of Jesus (Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved – Acts 4:12). Only by placing faith in the historical Jesus, the One who came, died, and was raised from the grave, can a person be saved.
If they’re not mixed up with other religions, they want to mix godliness with ungodliness (Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing, and I will receive you – 2nd Corinthians 6:17). God’s people want to serve God and Satan, and you can’t! Either you’re going to serve one or the other.
Christians are to be separated from the things of the world, such as lying, cheating, stealing, cursing, fornication, adultery, gossiping, and the list can go on. Just like God hates physical adultery, He hates spiritual adultery. As Christians, we must be watchful of what we allow in our eyes’ and ears’ gates. What you feed the most, whether it’s your spirit or your flesh, will dominate.
If Christians place their faith in anything other than Jesus, such as the Lord’s Supper, fasting, water baptism, good works, giving, and performing good deeds in their church, their denomination, then such a Christian is, in fact, in a state of spiritual adultery.
As Christians, we should seek those things that pertain to Christ (If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affections on things above, and not on things on the earth – Colossians 3:1-2). Christians must continually discipline themselves to focus on eternal realities instead of the temporal realities of this earth. Christians must be rooted and grounded in the Word of God; if not, they will easily stray from the doctrine of Jesus Christ.
There are so many false teachings, and if Christians don’t know the Word of God, they will be destroyed spiritually because they have a lack of knowledge of the Bible and spiritual things. Satan isn’t playing; he’s trying to kill as many as he can before they come to the knowledge of the truth.
Do you really think the Father and Son is or will listen to secular music, do you think they will attend secular concerts? If so, then you really don’t know them. Do you think either One of them would hurt a brother or sister with mean words or actions?
Some churches have a smoking section, and others have Christian nightclubs; what type of foolishness is this? When spiritual leaders are leading the people astray, they have not been sent by God; they sent themselves (Woe be unto the pastors that destroy and scatter the sheep of my pasture! Saith the Lord Jeremiah 23:1). Don’t allow anyone to minister to you just because they say they’re a pastor. Satan has sent his angels to pastor many churches; that’s why you can’t feel the Spirit of God in them because He’s not there!
Take time to read and study the Bible, and compare your lifestyle with the Bible. None of us is perfect, but when we see ourselves in the Word, then we align ourselves with the Word. Spiritual adultery is a sin to God, and He will not accept it.
