Illumination

They are all plain to him that understandeth, and right to them that findeth knowledge – Proverbs 8:9.

Understanding the Scriptures is important in order to apply them to our daily lives. The reason why most Christians live carnal lives is because they don’t read the Bible to learn the Scriptures. One can’t apply what they don’t understand.

It’s through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit that enables us to comprehend the Scriptures. Without the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, one will try to interpret Scripture with their intellect rather than by the Spirit. God talks with us through our spirit. His Spirit speaks to our hearts and gives us an understanding of the Scriptures. He provides a sense of what is right and wrong to Him, not what we think is right or wrong.

Many have been taught when they receive salvation; they receive the Holy Spirit, which is incorrect. If that were so, Jesus would not have instructed the believers to ask for the Holy Spirit (If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask Him – Luke 11:13? When one receives salvation, the Spirit of the Lord enters their heart, making them one with the Son and the Father.

When one receives salvation, sometimes they will receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit at salvation; if not, then shortly after their salvation, they will receive the Holy Spirit if they desire to have it and ask the Father to fill them. Many converts aren’t taught to ask for the baptism of the Holy Spirit.

Without the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, one will continue to live as though they were a nonbeliever because they don’t have the power to let go of the world. The Holy Spirit does more than enable one to speak in a language they don’t understand.

He empowers us to live according to the instructions of the Bible. We must follow the instructions if we want to be candidates for heaven. We can’t serve God and Satan; it’s either godliness or being the servant of Satan. Whoever you serve that who you will be a servant to (Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey his servants ye are to whom ye obey, whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness – Romans 6:16? We can’t grow spiritually if we are trying to serve God and Satan.

God loves us with everlasting love, but He will not tolerate us practicing sin when He has empowered us to overcome sin; when He has given His written Word for instructions. We have no excuse; the truth is that we have rejected His instructions. Rejecting His instructions is rejecting Him.

Reading and studying His Word will empower us to live according to the instructions, and we will be able to discern the tricks and schemes of Satan. We will be able to pray God’s Word against the attacks of Satan. We can’t fight spirits with our intellect.

Every time you read the Bible, the Holy Spirit will give you another revelation of the Scripture. He illuminates our understanding. You can be going through a difficult time, and the Holy Spirit will speak a Word into your spirit and give you the rest and peace you need in your mind and spirit.

The Holy Spirit will speak God’s Word, but He can’t speak it if you have not been reading the Bible so that it can be deposited in your spirit and heart. What you deposit in your heart and spirit will be on display, whether it is the godliness of God or the spirit of the world.

Satan wants us to be blinded spiritually so he can continue to keep us as his servants. Satan will keep us focused on the things of the world, texting, watching movies, following people on social media, busy trying to make more money, and how many degrees can we can get. They focus on purchasing homes and cars, everything except spending time with God, praying, or reading His Word.

We need to set some priorities, and our first priority should be God, our family, and all other things that come after. Who you love is who you want to spend time with. If we never spend time with Him other than thirty-forty minutes on Sunday, our love needs to be improved because it’s not genuine. We’re serving Him with our lips and not our hearts.

God wants us to love Him and show Him our love; we do that by spending time with Him as we do with our spouse and children. When you really love someone, it’s not hard to make time for them. Open your heart to His calling. He’s waiting for you to take the time to meet with Him.
